At 00:52 on October 11, WWU Moodle experienced an outage.  The cause was the failure of 2 hard drives in our primary data storage NAS.  We believe the root cause was a failing fan in the same device. 

Later that morning, we began working to recover the data and bring Moodle back online.  At the close of the day, it was determined that it would not be possible to recover the NAS data array in a timely manner and we began rebuilding the Moodle server from backups. 

Since late on Monday, October 12, Moodle is back up and running on our backup restores.  You may find some recently added data missing (particularly uploaded files).  If you find data missing that you cannot easily reupload, please contact the moodle administrators and we'll see if we can help.

Over the last 24 hours, new hard drives have been installed in the Moodle Cluster. Total data storage has been more than quaddrupled!
